Backpacking Chat Rooms and Groups

Like everything you do in life, before you are ready to backpack, whether it is in the wilderness, across the United States or traveling throughout Europe, research before you start. You need to understand everything you can about this adventure you are about to embark on. There are many ways to do this. One is to spend hours on the Internet reading informative articles on different topics. This website is one place to do that. This can give you lots of information. The guidebooks you will buy will also be informative. However, once you have read the articles, the best next thing to do is talk with other backpackers.

There are various ways to go about this but if you have a computer the easiest way is to join one, or a number of, chat rooms. These will discuss everything from equipment recommendations and where to buy for the best prices, to which hostels are cleanest to stay in. Some of the chat rooms will also have a place for travelers to post their journals. When looking at traveling overseas these can be very informative as you read through places that others have been and what their experiences, both good and bad, were. It gives you the chance to determine if some of the places you thought of going are maybe places better missed.

Many chat rooms will be topic specific wanting only to discus the equipment you should buy to hiking around the Rockies in Canada while others will discuss European hostels. There are so many potential subjects that finding a chat room that will answer your particular questions about backpacking will only take a matter of time.

Another source of instruction can come from backpacking groups. There are many of these. Some you can find through backpacking and travel magazines while others may be found though notices in backpacking stores. These groups may offer trips in groups to the beginner. This can be especially useful for those who want to wilderness hike but are still new to the activity. Being able to go out the first few times, as part of a group, would be a good learning experience. Many people like the social aspect of hiking as mush as they enjoy the physical challenge.

Another source of info on chat rooms and groups for backpackers is good old fashion Google search.

On the other hand if you are about to embark on a backpacking adventure through Europe and you have not found any friends who have the money or can take the time you may want to consider hooking up with someone you meet through one of the chat rooms. This is no more dangerous than traveling with someone you meet at a hostel one night and begin sightseeing with the next day. If you do this just be guarded with your money and travel papers. Make sure when using chat rooms or joining groups that none of them expect you to pay large fees to join. Do not give your credit information to any of them. Real chat rooms are free. Also, limit the amount of personal information you give out.
